Bruce Elder

Bruce’s dancing career began in 1990, when he attended 1950’s Rock n Roll dance classes. Bruce quickly embraced the dancing, and was soon discovered by his teacher as a natural.

In 1992, Bruce was introduced to an original Swing Dancer Lee Neilsen. Lee, who was 72 at this stage, was one of Australia’s most famous Swing Dancers, from the 40’s and 50’s. She was wanting to pass on the dance styles of Jitterbug and Lindyhop to Sydney Dancers, so these dance styles would not be lost. This introduced Bruce to the world of Swing Dancing.

Bruce has competed in numerous Dance Competitions all over Australia and won numerous Titles including State, National and Australasian Titles in both 40’s Swing and 50’s Rock n Roll Dance Styles. He is also a seasoned performer and has appeared in music clips, TV Commercials including Foxtel IQ, TV shows such as Disney, Mornings with Kerri-Ann, and Australian Idol, Magazines such as Marie Clare and Musical Openings such as Shout and Leader of the Pack in NSW and VIC.

Bruce has been a Dance Teacher since 1992, and studio principal since 2000. He has also trained in England, Germany and USA. He has taught many workshops across Australia, and has organized and brought the Worlds Best Swing Dance Teachers to Australia and his students. He has been a founder and driving force within the Sydney/Australian Swing Dancing scene, and is also a Co-Founder and Head Judge of the Australian Swing Dance Championships. He is also the co-founder and organizer of the Sydney Lindy Exchange, Sydney’s longest running Swing Dance Festival.

Bruce’s passion is sharing the love of these fun and energetic dances from the 40’s/50’s eras, and he loves the fashion and culture of the eras.

Teaching someone to dance is one of the most rewarding experiences, and seeing them making new friends and getting fit at the same time always brings a smile to his face.

Trudi dance teacher

Trudi Pickering

Trudi has been dancing since 2000. She remembers walking up the stairs for her first dance class (of Nightclub Hustle!) and being stuck to the wall with nervousness. That feeling has long since passed, and she now get nervous if she isn’t out on the dance floor!

Trudi has taught for a range of dance schools, both in Sydney and Canada. She is a versatile dancer/teacher having performed and competed in Salsa, West Coast Swing, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rockabilly, Lindy Hop and Balboa.

Trudi has also been involved in organising workshops since 2004, with the inaugural Sydney Lindy Exchange, and now organises and runs For Dancers Only, Australia-wide workshops with Peter Flahiff. She’s excited to be teaching weekly classes in 50’s Rock n Roll, with her passion helping students get out on the social dance floor.
